"PUNLA" In the Eyes of a Child Laborer: Images of Child Labor in the Philippines

This is a series of shots taken by a 17-year old boy from Hacienda Luisita, Tarlac.  Through the efforts of ART ACTION and SALINLAHI Alliance for Childrens Concerns, the first of a series of  photography training workshops for child laborers entitled "In the Eyes of a Child Laborer: Images of Rural Child Labor in the Philippines" were undertaken.

The first training session was held in Brgy. Asturias, Tarlac, Tarlac, one of the 11 barangays inside the 6,400 hectares of Hacienda Luisita.  After the peasants and agricultural  workers staged their strike last November 2004, which  resulted in the death of seven farmers while a contingent of police and military personnel were attempting to disperse them violently, the peasants won their case and and gained the right to till the land. So they did... planting the fertile land with palay, vegetables and other rootcrops that served their needs, instead of sugarcane, which served the need for profit of the Cojuangco family.

SALINLAHI will be holding a photo exhibition soon.Watch out for it!!!
