About Us

Salinlahi Foundation, Inc. is an alliance of various organizations and individuals committed to promoting the rights and welfare of the Filipino child. A non-stock, non-profit, non-government organization, its aim is to unite and strengthen the network of various initiatives consisting of people’s organizations and non-government organizations and institutions responding to the needs and situation of the Filipino child as well as promoting his/her rights. Salinlahi Foundation – Alliance for Children’s Concerns shall lead the progressive and nationalist work for children’s empowerment as contribution to the movement for genuine social transformation.

Salinlahi's Vision

A just, free and humane society which cares for its children, and ensures that each child is given all opportunities to develop his/her own capacities, to be healthy, creative, analytical, non-sexist and have love for their fellow human beings, their country, the environment, and the Creator.

Salinlahi's Goals

  • To promote, coordinate and strengthen children’s work among the NGOs and Pos.
  • To lead in the promotion and popularization of issues and concerns that affect children.
  • To spearhead the formation and development of new programs and organizations responding to gaps and new fields in children’s work.
  • To deliver direct services of the Filipino children though its member organizations.
  • To work for the empowerment of children and their participation in the movement for social transformation.
  • To unite and strengthen organizations working for children towards systematic and vigorous sustained action for children’s rights and welfare.

History

Formally organized as an alliance during its First General Assembly on June 14, 1986, SALINLAHI takes its roots from the National Conference on the Filipino Child Today: In Crisis held on January 26, 1986. One of the major resolutions of the Conference was to form an alliance for children’s concerns that will coordinate the efforts of various institutions, organizations and individuals within the country working for the rights and welfare of the Filipino children as well as link up with the international and foreign-based agencies, institutions and organizations concerned with children’s matters.

At present, it has forty nine (49) member organizations throughout the country with most of its members focusing on the delivery of basic services such as health and preschool education for children of the urban poor, workers and farmers. The rest focus on the specialized care and research on groups of children in especially difficult circumstances like street children, child workers, sexually abused and prostituted children and victims of political violence.

Organizational Structure

The National Assembly

The National Assembly is the highest policy-making body of the alliance is composed of one voting representative from each of the member organizations or one representative of individual members organized into groups. Salinlahi holds national assembly once in three years.

The Council of Leaders

The Council of Leaders is the policy-making body of the alliance in between the national assemblies. It is composed of individual elected at-large and one representative from each area group. The Secretary-General sits in the council as an ex-officio member.

The Secretariat

The Secretariat is the implementing arm of the national assembly and the council of leaders. It implements the four programs (LINKS, PROJECTs, BALANCE and PROBE) and responsive of the needs of the members under the guidance of the Secretary-General.

The Area Groups

The Area Groups are member organizations organized on the basis of territorial scope or special lines of interests or issues. Each group elects its own representatives to the Council of Leaders.
